FAQLab is een terugkerend evenement georganiseerd door Modlab,

Willem Twee studios en FAQ Festival gericht
op ontwikkelingen en experimenten in de elektronische muziek.
Deze editie staat in het teken van zelfgebouwde instrumenten.

Rob Hordijk
Is ontwerper en bouwer van ondermeer het Hordijk Modular System en heeft een geheel eigen benadering op
het gebied van klanksynthese en elektronisch ontwerp. Tijdens FAQLab zal hij een presentatie verzorgen met als onderwerp:
“het concept van een modulaire synthesizer als een instrument, in tegenstelling tot een collectie van modules”.

Michele Abolaffio
Michele Abolaffio is a live electronics performer, sound engineer and instrument builder.

He studied in Sonology and STEIM and has focused his work on the use of biophysical sensor technologies,

developing personal instruments that enable a high level of musical expressivity through body data.

He is currently a research associate in the STEIM Institute, handling hardware and software development.
His instrument Synaesthesia won the ADE Soundlab grant in 2016 and he’s been touring it around Europe.

Synaesthesia aims to explore the musical and corporeal performance practice built upon the active stimulation of the senses of sight, hearing and the perception of the muscles.

The instrument is based on a synesthetic system composed of wearable sensors that respond both to bio-signals and dynamically controlled lighting.

Rik Wijngaards
Met zijn zoektocht naar orde en harmonie zit Rik nog steeds met zijn eigen chaotische verstand.

Hierdoor laat hij zich leiden door experiment en toeval met zijn zoektocht naar het nieuwe geluid.

Zijn opleiding in product design helpt hem om van muziek een meer fysieke ervaring te maken, niet alleen voor de muzikant, maar ook voor de luisteraar.

Een goed voorbeeld is zijn “HeartStone” waarmee je geluid kan voelen door je huid. Gecombineerd met een contactmicrofoon ontstaat er een nieuwe manier

om geluid te manipuleren met je eigen lichaam als resonant.

CtrlFreq AKA Kacper Ziemianin
LSe is an award-winning DIY instrument and performance system for live
electronic music. It allows user to program sequences of lights which are then
translated into sounds. This combination opens up a lot of possibilities for
controlling, structuring and interacting with sound. This instrument tries to addresses
an issue of liveness of electronic music performance. How does the audience know
if the performance is really live? How can we relate to the actions that the musicians
are taking onstage? In case of ‘LSe’ every sound is created and manipulated by
various light sources. This creates a direct link between the visual and sonic realm.

Jan-Willem Hagenbeek
As an electronic musician and producer I have firsthand experience with the gap between the feel of playing live on stage
and the more controlled environment when working in the studio for productions.
Therefore all of my products are designed with a focus on the immediacy of live performance,
but can be easily integrated into a studio environment.
